The new tablet from Asus is advertised as being “twice the performance while being thinner than the iPad”. Since that is true for now, it may not be true by the time this tablet gets to market. The iPad 2 tablet is destined to be out about the same time as this one. Nevertheless, this one has nearly an inch more screen real estate than an iPad. It measures in at 10.1 inches to the iPad’s 9.7.

Continuing with the screen, it is crafted with 1280 by 800 pixels of clarity. It is capacitive touch and will come with the custom Asus user interface. It is an IPS screen, which means it can be seen with clarity from angles. In addition, the screen will have a light sensor, gyroscope and E-Compass. The gyroscope can be used for gaming.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer comes with a keyboard. It is not optional. It comes with its own battery and is high quality. It is also used as a base or “dock” for the tablet. It connects and disconnects just like a battery charger would do for a cell phone. Asus also puts out another tablet with a permanently attached keyboard they call the “Slider”. This one, the Transformer, is likely more sturdy and will be able to handle abuse better with a detachable keyboard. The Transformer looks like a regular netbook when it is sitting on top of its keyboard.

Another hardware for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is an amicable processor and cameras. The processor is created by Nvidia and named “Tegra 2″ for its dual core format. This chip is in many a smartphone and tablet already. It is running at one gigahertz times two. When this chip is in a smartphone, the smartphone becomes a “super smartphone”, so think of the Transformer as a “super tablet”. The Transformer was given two cameras, one on the front and one for the back. The rear picture snapper is a five megapixel model and features auto focus. The front camera is for video chats and is rated at 1.2 megapixels.

Connections with other devices include USB, HDMI and a card reader. The high definition output is at 1080p, not the lower 720p. Wi-Fi is featured in all the modes, including fast “N” mode. Bluetooth 2.1 is included and 3G is being talked about. If the Asus Eee Pad Transformer gets the 3G feature, look for it to be making phone calls using the bluetooth service.

Battery life for the tablet is impressive while used with the lower docking keyboard. The keyboard battery supplements the tablet battery to give sixteen hours of use between charges. Compare that to ten for the Apple iPad. The Transformer is going to run the free Android software in the Honeycomb version. It was using this software in the 2.X version at CES. This is going to be sold in April or May, and the price could be up to $700 dollars.
