If you happened not to like the iPad, but do have an iPhone, you are in luck. The movie service named Netflix just finished making their app for your iPhone. If you like videos and movies this is great news. Read on for more information about the Netflix experience for the Apple iPhone.
Netflix has had an iPad app ( application ) out for a while, but now they have created an app that works with the iPhone 4. What this does is to allow a subscriber to view streaming video that comes directly from Netflix. There is no limitation on the amount of videos that can be streamed. If a user happens to get busy during a show, no problem, the app can resume later at the point where it was turned off, so nothing is missed. You can even view it later on something other than your iPhone.
The Netflix app also allows browsing of movies and the ability to manage their setup with Netflix. This requires a movie subscription, the price of which is $8.99. This gets an iPhone user a virtually unlimited amount of movies streamed to their device. They currently have an offer for obtaining the first month free. If you start up an account with Netflix it takes about a week to terminate the service. This involves sending back any DVDs they sent you.
Using the Netflix app on your iPhone is straightforward. You open the app, browse to the movies you like and view them. Video quality is good over a Wi-Fi connection, especially if you use a “N” mode system. Some also have a good connection over 3G. The “queue” of movies that Netflix allows you to take part in is tracked in the app. If you have DVD´s sent to your house, they are not included in the queue. If you are using this with your iPhone 4, there is a negative point. The iOS 4 “fast app switching” is not supported on the Netflix app. You can stop a movie while it is playing and return later to the spot where you were. However, if you start up another program while running the Netflix program, you have to start over.
When scrolling through the lists of movies, there is no scrollbar to let you know how far down the list you are. That may not be a problem for everyone. If you continue scrolling, the app recommends movies that Netflix thinks you will like based on past viewings. The list of Genres includes things like Action and Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Documentary, Foreign and more. If you use the search bar, it has autocomplete to make more suggestions based on titles of movies. The search function does not include the DVD´s, only the streaming movies. If all that was not enough, Netflix added the “instant queue”. This is a list of movies you want to watch without any wait.
For now you only get the AT&T network to use with the Netflix app and your iPhone. That will more than likely change soon, but it will be a small wait. This Netflix app works well, has great quality, and should bring a smile to many iPhone users.
