If you thought your smartphone was fast last year, just wait. A new processor is coming out that will blow it away. The people who make the Qualcomm Snapdragon are planning a 1500 megahertz dual core model. Read more on this development here in this informative article.
It is not wrong to want more power for your smartphone. If you plan on running a Nokia N8 you are going to get 680 megahertz of computing power. If you have an iPhone 4 you are running around 800 to 1000 megahertz. If you run an HTC HD2 or a Toshiba TG01 you are running around 1000 megahertz. If you can imagine running those smartphones that have a 1000 megahertz processor fifty percent faster, that is what we are looking at. The fastest of the fastest at the moment are cruising at 1000 megahertz. That is going to change soon.
So why bother with a faster processor if you like that smartphone you have ? For one, a smartphone can handle higher definition video with a more powerful ( read; “speedy” ) processor. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon chip will give a smartphone the ability to play videos at 1080p. That is around a thirty percent greater resolution than the 720p currently available. If you do not like those larger screens, you will not see much need in the higher definition.
However, resolution is not the only reason to get a smartphone powered by the more powerful Snapdragon. This is a dual core processor we are talking about. This means one side can be turned off if it is not needed. The Snapdragon 8X72 can handle the big jobs, while guzzling battery juice. It is also able to handle smaller tasks and quaff less of the battery. This dual processor therefore has a dual personality.
Are there any smartphones in the works for this smart new processor ? There is, and it is called the HTC Scorpion. It is still in the rumor stage, but practically already here. It not only packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1500 chipset, but also sports the Android Froyo operating system. This is version 2.2 of the Android software. It has been tested to be 450 percent faster than 2.1 ( Eclair ). With speeds and power like this, soon it will be unnecessary to buy a PC or a Mac.
The faster Qualcomm Snapdragon processor allows a smartphone to have an HDMI connector for a connection directly to a high definition display. This will demonstrate that a passable screen can be used to just view video or to do regular work. If you found out that this article was written on an HTC Evo using a high definition screen and voice recognition software you might be surprised. But that will be no surprise come the end of next year.
Mobile technology is changing the way we do things. We need more procesing power. The Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is all about bringing this power to society.
