The Samsung Captivate is another one of those smartphones you may not have heard about but wish you had. This is another handset from the Galaxy series created by Samsung. Read on to find out the superb details on the Samsung Captivate here in this informative article.

When five out of six cell phone carriers are selling one model of smartphone, you know something is good. That is true about the Galaxy “S” series. Samsung Captivate is one of those and is being sold on the market with the Android operating system.

This smartphone is equal to many other popular smartphones with the exception of video conferencing and WiMaX. The size of the Captivate is impressive. It is thin. It is just .41 of an inch in thickness. Not many of the top smartphones from other manufacturers make theirs less than that. One exception would be Apple. For height, the Samsung Captivate is 4.83 inches tall.

Everyone loves a bright, crisp display, and the Samsung Captivate definitely has one. It uses the new AMOLED technology but adds the Samsung “extra” of “Super” AMOLED. It is impressive with its four inch size. A large list of features complements the display, such as; accelerometer, proximity sensor, swype text, multi touch and touch sensitive control. Resolution is superior at 480 by 800 pixels.

The camera is a five megapixel over-performer. This is set up as a high definition video recorder, not just to take photos with. The camera does not have flash, but does have a smile trigger. A smile trigger does just what it sounds like. It triggers the photo once whoever is in view smiles. The camera has a panoramic view to take ultra wide shots. The video is rated at 720p for high definition.

Looking at the “guts” of the Samsung Captivate we find some goodies there also. This smartphone supports Wi-Fi ( “N” mode ), bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE and 3G networks. If that is not enough, there is also a cable connection using Micro USB. The processor is spinning at a very fast, very desirable 1000 megahertz. This is equal to most any top-of-the-line smartphone on the market today. Internal memory is rated at 16 gigabytes. To make sure there is no lags in performance, Samsung gave the Captivate 512 megabytes of RAM.

The operating system is from Google. It is called Android and is version 2.1. Version 2.2 is said to be available for the Samsung Captivate but no upgrade date has yet to be specified. Android is very popular these days and has over 110,000 applications ( apps ) that you can use to do just about nearly anything with information. From scanning barcodes to tracking contacts in real time, Android does the job. Samsung overlaid their own user interface over the basic Android setup in a minimalistic way. This makes Android more palatable and increases user enjoyment.

The battery lasts a surprising length of time, more than likely because of the AMOLED screen. Talk time is rated from just under six hours to six and a half hours. AT&T is the carrier who will be taking this to market. Look for the price to be around $50 dollars with a contract.
