If you are a Motorola fanboy or girl, you hardly ever see anything but black, black and more black cell phones and smartphones. Research In Motion thankfully does not think like that. Some of their phones look really nice in black, but even better in white. The White Blackberry Torch is one such example of this. Not many smartphones look this good even in their formal black attire.

The size of the White Torch is unchanged from the black model. It is 111 millimeters tall by 62 millimeters wide by 14.6 millimeters thick. That equals out to 4.37 inches tall by 2.44 inches wide by .57 of an inch thick for those living in the United States. It easily goes into a pocket or purse.

The White Blackberry Torch comes with a slider format. The keyboard slides out vertically, not horizontally and is a QWERTY style. The screen is a nominal 3.2 inches in size and comes with multi touch and a proximity sensor. Just under the screen is an optical trackpad for using while navigating the Torch. Clarity is rated for 360 by 480 pixels. It is a typical 3.2 inch Blackberry size and created out of LCD.

Blackberry gave the White Torch a good pedigree of wireless connections. This one has a Wi-Fi connection in the top “N” mode, but it will depend on the carrier if it ends up working or not. All the other expected wireless connections are there like bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE and 3G data. WiMaX or other 4G connections are not included. No FM radio is included. Voice networks are made on 2G and 3G connections with GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 megahertz bands for 2G. The UMT network will cover 800, 850, 1900 and 2100 bands.

The power running the programs and menus of the White Blackberry Torch is a 624 megahertz processor. This is a typical speed for a Blackberry, and even though it sounds slow for today’s smartphones, it does not have latency. The included memory is internal and external with a 4 gigabyte storage size on the inside. Blackberry includes a 4 gigabyte MicroSD card for free. RAM memory is 512 megabytes in size.

The mobile operating system for the White Blackberry Torch ( 9800 ) is the newish OS 6. This is created by Blackberry as an update. It is a drastic update with a new faster browser, a universal search option and more. The new access points allow the user to manage connections and messages. The new setup is not setup to display updates in real time, which is a bummer. There are no facebook or twitter widgets for the home screen. Overall it is a much better user experience than version five.

Look for this to be sold on the Vodafone network. If you live in the United States, this should have no problem working on an AT&T network. It is available now for $99 if you buy from AT&T.
