You may be a reader, who has already been stopped for using your cell phone while driving. If so, that event was totally avoidable. The same people who brought the world the Taser electronic gun has gotten into the business of saving people from getting into trouble with the law. Read on to find out more details.

Some call this the worst idea to come out of CES 2011. Some call it the “ultimate parental protection tool”. Whatever title you give to this tool. It is made by the same people who gave the world the electronic gun called the taser. This taser is allowed to be used on humans, but if the law caught another human using it on their pet, they would no doubt be fined or jailed. Moral applications aside, this is software sold with the intention hopefully to be used to save lives. It is simply called “Protector”.

How does it work? It has many features, one of which is that a text message sent to a child will arrive in the cell phone of the parent first. The parent can then allow the text message to be delivered to their child or not. A child who ignores the calls of a parent while on a phone call can have that call interrupted. The parent can enter the conversation of the child while they are talking, cutting off the other caller and putting them on hold. For parents who want control, they now have it. For parents who want to be the proverbial “fly on the wall” of their children’s mobile life, they have that also.

There are other variations on the above theme for the Protector software from Taser. They also make a software and hardware combination that helps children not talk on the cell phone while driving a car. The features for this part of the setup include prohibiting calls within thirty feet of the child’s ( or whoever’s ) car. The hardware consists of a GSM transceiver, and bluetooth installed into the car of interest. The system will allow emergency calling, and specific numbers that a parent puts on the “safe list”. The features do not end there. The car can be tracked, with location, speed and the ability to see if the locking screen has been accessed. The parent can ascertain if the car has exceeded certain miles per hour.

If the parent’s child is sending unruly texts, this can be found out also. The popular sexting can be nipped in the bud. The tool monitors explicit and sexual content on the phone. The phone can send out an alert if the child leaves a predetermined area. A pet owner has a similar tool when they use the “invisible fence” with their pets. This one from Taser happens not to jolt the child into submission, which is ironic, since their stun gun does just that.

For all its power, the system works on one phone. If a child is smart, they will simply buy another cell phone if they want to do bad stuff. Use it for yourself, to keep yourself out of trouble while driving. The Protector system from Taser costs $250 dollars with an extra $14.95 per month fee.
